Originated in 1936, the Richmond Art Center is the largest visual arts center in the East Bay, dedicated to providing the community with the opportunity to see, create, and learn about art. While known locally, particularly within the artist community, they struggled to be recognized in the larger Bay Area. We were initially brought in to make improvements to a recently-designed logo and create graphic standards. However, while exploring the existing logo, we incorporated some original ideas and, ultimately, we worked with the Center to create an entirely new mark. The new logo incorporates the initials R A C in the form of graphic arrows that collectively create an R monogram for Richmond. The components can break out as independent graphic elements to be used across the system. Along with the new mark, we created a system that included a color palette, typography standards, and guidelines on application for current and future needs.
