Seeing

Client: Chronicle Books / The Exploratorium

Frank Oppenheimer founded San Francisco’s Exploratorium in 1969, and ever since its hands-on participatory approach to the presentation of scientific principles has become the norm for science museums across the globe. In spring of 2013, it relocated to a new building at Pier 15, and as part of their rebirth, decided to create a new book in honor of the occasion. The result, Seeing, presents a suite of optical illusions along with an explanation of the vision principles that cause them to occur. Also included are a number of accessories—a spinning disk, reflective sheet, etc.—to bring the illusions off the page.
