Seeing

Client: Chronicle Books / The Exploratorium

Frank Oppenheimer founded San Francisco’s Exploratorium in 1969, and ever since its hands on participatory approach to the presentation of scientific principles has become the norm for science museums across the globe. In spring of 2013, it relocated to a new building at Pier 15, and as part of their rebirth, decided to create a new book in honor of the occasion. The result, Seeing, presents a suite of optical illusions along with an explanation of the vision principles that cause them to occur. Also included are a number of accessories—a spinning disk, reflective sheet, etc.—to bring the illusions off the page.
