Reclaim Market Street Exhibition

Client: Studio for Urban Projects / SPUR (San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association)

Working with architect Rick Johnson and Alison Sant at the Studio for Urban Projects, we designed the identity and graphics for this multi-stage exhibition exploring the future of San Francisco's main thoroughfare, Market Street. We drew a custom typeface based on stencils used in road markings, and this became the project's unifying identity. The typeface was also used in laser-cut stencils to paint messages and graphics on the Market Street corridor (with non-permanent chalk paint). The exhibit invites viewers to reflect on the space that is Market Street and its possible uses  by viewing urban plans implemented by other cities. Various outdoor public events served to test and promote development proposals under consideration for the street and involve the public in shaping a better Market Street.
