In 1961 the Samuel H. Kress Foundation presented the Georgia Museum of Art with a collection of Italian Renaissance paintings, as part of the foundation’s mission to make great works of art accessible to the general public. For the 50th anniversary of the gift, the GMA and Kress invited the general public to submit artistic responses to the paintings. 24 winning entries were exhibited at the museum, and are compiled in this volume. The book’s design looks to bridge the qualities of the original paintings and the new works. An elegant leatherette cover and gilded page edges are paired with custom typography and a contemporary layout.
