"Son of Fruitbowl" Illustration

Client: Dwell Magazine

For Dwell's Tenth Anniversary issue, the magazine referenced an editorial from the premier issue entitled "The Fruit Bowl Manifesto," reflecting on technological advancements of the past decade. One such advancement was computer-aided routing, which went from a very expensive and specialized process, to one accessible to individual woodworkers and craftspeople for use on single items. Our assignment was to create custom type that looked as if it were robotically carved out of Cararra marble. We drew letterforms specific to the article title, linking together the whole unit, and then collaborated with digital artist Kent Matheson to digitally render the illustration as if it was carved in stone.
